南海（なんかい）の役人（やくにん）は皆（みな）いやがる中（なか）に尉（ゐ）をも択（えらま）ざるは高堂（ざしき）に老親（としよりおや）があるゆへのこと南州（なんしう）はもの
すごいそうな時（とき）しも海中（かいちう）から楼台（ろうたい）が浮（うか）び上（あが）るは蜃龍（みづち）が気（き）を吐（はい）て重（かさな）るそれに海（うみ）
辺（べ）の村里（むらさと）は鮫（さめ）が人（ひと）に化（ばけ）て絹（きぬ）を売（うる）それ計（ばかり）でもない南海（なんかい）が暗（くらく）て三山（さん〴〵）のあたり雨（あめ）はもの
さびしく降（ふり）熱気（ねつき）の早（はや）い所（ところ）ゆへ花（はな）も明（さかり）であらん五嶺（ごれい）の春（はる）もけつくあはれにあらん南海（なんかい）

張子尉を南海に送る　　岑参

南州の尉を択ばざることなし。高堂に老親有ればなり。楼台蜃気に重なり、邑里鮫人を雑う。海暗し三山の雨、花明らかなり五嶺の春。此の郷宝玉多し。慎んで清貧を厭うこと勿れ。

南海の役人は皆嫌がる中、尉職も選ばないのは高堂に老いた親がいるからのこと。南州は物凄そうな時、海中から楼台が浮かび上がるのは蜃龍が気を吐いて重なるため。それに海辺の村里では鮫が人に化けて絹を売るばかりでなく、南海が暗くて三山のあたりに雨が物寂しく降り、熱気の早い所なので花も盛りであろう五嶺の春も、ことのほか趣深いであろう。南海の郷は宝玉多く出る所であるけれども、孝行で行かれるので、慎んで無欲なる清き心の貧を嫌い嫌わずに勤められよと、よく戒めてやる。

Seeing off Zhang Ziwei to Nanhai　　Cen Shen

Not choosing the post of Wei in Nanzhou, for there are aged parents in the high hall. Tower pavilions layer with mirage vapors, village settlements mix with shark-people. The sea is dark with rain over three mountains, flowers bright in spring of the Five Ridges. This land has much precious jade. Be careful not to despise honest poverty.

Among the officials whom everyone dislikes being sent to Nanhai, not choosing the Wei position is because of having elderly parents at home in the high hall. Nanzhou seems quite forbidding - when tower pavilions appear floating up from the sea, it is because dragon-mirages exhale their breath in layers. Moreover, in the coastal villages, sharks transform into humans to sell silk. Not only that, but Nanhai is dark with rain falling melancholically around the three mountains, and because it is a place of intense heat, the flowers must be in full bloom - the spring of the Five Ridges must be particularly moving. The land of Nanhai produces much precious jade, but since you go there out of filial piety, be careful to serve diligently without despising the poverty that comes from a pure and desireless heart - this is good advice I give you.
