『和漢三才図会』湿草類に曰く
雁来紅 《老少年、十様錦》 和名 加末豆加乃花（ガマヅカノハナ） アカベ《信州高遠》
『本草綱目』に「雁来紅、その葉九月に鮮紅なり。これを望むこと花の如し。この草は花無しといえども、その葉紅色にして花の如し。故に人も花の部に入れたり。故にこれをもって真写とする。その数種多くして一時に写すこと難し。その類は」
画譜に曰く「校頭乱れて葉に紅紫黄緑の四色有り。故に十様錦と名づく。その雁来紅は雁の来るをもって紅なり。老少年はすでに秋の気配、葉紫にして頂紅なり。少老年は頂黄にして葉緑なり」云々。これをもって知るべし。『大和本草』に「六月に紅なるをもって十様錦と名づく」

"Wakan Sansai Zue" (Illustrated Sino-Japanese Encyclopedia) states in the section on wet grasses:
Wild goose red 《Also called rōshōnen, jūyō-nishiki》 Japanese name: gamazuka no hana Also called akabe 《in Takato, Shinshū》
"Honzō Kōmoku" (Compendium of Materia Medica) states: "Wild goose red - its leaves turn bright red in the ninth month. Looking at it, it appears like flowers. Though this plant has no flowers, its leaves are red like flowers. Therefore, people include it in the flower section. Thus, this is considered a true representation. There are many varieties, making it difficult to illustrate all at once. The types are..."
The illustrated guide states: "The top is varied with leaves having four colors: red, purple, yellow, and green. Therefore it is named jūyō-nishiki (ten-variety brocade). The wild goose red turns red when the geese arrive. Rōshōnen already shows autumn's approach with purple leaves and red tops. Shōrōnen has yellow tops and green leaves," and so forth. From this one can understand. "Yamato Honzō" states: "Those that turn red in the sixth month are called jūyō-nishiki."
