現代語訳
『救荒本草』に曰く
紫豇豆（ハナササゲ）苗
人家ではこれを十六豇豆（ジュウロクササゲ）と言う。
その美しい莢は一茎に十八個の莢があるため、このように名付けられたと言う。紫豇豆には一種別のものがあり、莢の縁が紫黒色のものを縁取豇豆（ヘリトリササゲ）と言う。

"Kyūkō Honzō" states:
Purple cowpea (Hana-sasage) seedling
People at home call this sixteen cowpea (Jūroku-sasage).
Its beautiful pods, having eighteen pods on one stem, are said to be named thus. There is another variety of purple cowpea, with purple-black edges on the pods, called edge-bordered cowpea (Heritori-sasage).
