【タイトル】
世は安政、民の賑わい

【第一段】
そもそも人間の五常を守るのも神仏の教えであるのに、その道を忘れ、貴賤ともに恐ろしい戒めの欲の道に入ったため、下々の民を救おうと神や仏が相談して、鹿島の神にお頼みしたところ、鹿島大神宮が要石を鯰に縛りつけ、世の盛衰を直すべしとあったので、鯰は恐縮して安政二年十月二日夜の四つ時、御神のお遣いであると江戸をはじめとして凡そ十里四方を荒らしたので、家を倒し地を割り出火することおびただしい。
金持ちども
「さあさあさあ、たまらないこの地震では、せっかく貯めた金も千両箱が壊れて火事で焼けて種無しになる。ああ情けない地震だ。どうしたらよかろう。逃げるにも逃げられない。ああああ」
【第二段】
座頭
「さてさて大きな地震だ。（京都や）大坂は大変に揺ったけれども、江戸は安心だと思ったが、これではたまらない。ああ、あれあれ家が潰れる。壁が落ちて見え（ない）。目の中へ砂が入る。何もかも金はどこへ行った。柱も折れた。悲しいことだ。目が開きたい。ああああ」
鯰
「やあやあ金持ちの不言ども、その他座頭に至るまで、よく聞け。われこれまで少し動けば万災が起こるなどと、おのれらが身の用心をするのも（欲張っているからのことだ）」
【第三段】
欲張っているからのことだ。世界中、その大欲が貴賤の差別なく印にさえなれば、できないこともできるようになる浮世になってから、可哀想な貧乏人は年中苦しみ通しに苦しんで、いつまで経ってもよくなるということがない。金持ちは自分らが金のあることを鼻にかけ、町人でいながら侍の株を買って銭を出して人に務めてもらい扶持を取る。時は自分らが努めて（得た利益を）家へ俵を積み上げて大きな面をしている。これはみんな禄盗人というものだ。
【第四段】
それゆえに神仏のお怒りが強く、今度世界を太平にせよとの天からの厳命である。驚くな、嘆くな。金持ちどもはみな自業自得であるぞ。これこそ下国安穏の平均だ。騒ぐなあ。泣くことはないぞ。ぐわたぐわた、びしびし、めりめりめり。

【First Section】
It is the teaching of gods and buddhas that humans should observe the five constant virtues, but having forgotten this way, both high and low have entered the terrifying path of greed. To save the common people, the gods and buddhas consulted together and requested the Kashima deity. The Kashima Grand Shrine tied the keystone to a catfish, declaring that the world's rise and fall should be corrected. The catfish humbly accepted and, as a messenger of the gods, devastated an area of about ten ri in all directions centered on Edo at the fourth hour of the night on October 2nd, Ansei 2nd year, toppling houses, splitting the ground, and causing countless fires.
The Rich:
"Oh no, oh no, this is unbearable! With this earthquake, our carefully saved money, even our thousand-ryo strongboxes are broken and burned in fires, leaving us with nothing. Oh, what a pitiful earthquake! What should we do? We want to flee but cannot escape. Oh, oh, oh!"
【Second Section】
Blind Musician:
"What a tremendous earthquake! Kyoto and Osaka shook terribly, but I thought Edo was safe. This is unbearable! Oh, look, houses are collapsing! Walls are falling and I can't see. Sand is getting in my eyes. Everything, where did the money go? Even the pillars are broken. How sad! I want to open my eyes. Oh, oh, oh!"
Catfish:
"Hey, hey, you greedy rich people and even you blind musicians, listen well! Until now, whenever I moved even slightly, you said it would bring ten thousand disasters. Your concern for your own safety is also (because you are greedy)..."
【Third Section】
"...because you are greedy. In this world where great greed has become the mark of both high and low alike, even impossible things become possible in this floating world. Meanwhile, poor people suffer continuously year-round, and no matter how much time passes, their situation never improves. The rich take pride in their wealth, and though they are merchants, they buy samurai status with money, pay others to serve in their place, and collect stipends. When times are good, they pile up rice bales in their homes from their gains and put on airs. These are all stipend thieves."
【Fourth Section】
Therefore, the gods and buddhas are greatly angered, and this is a stern command from heaven to make the world peaceful this time. Do not be surprised, do not lament! All you rich people are reaping what you have sown. This is the equalization for the peace and tranquility of the lower country. Do not make a fuss! There is nothing to cry about. Crash, crack, crumble, crumble, crumble!
