【本文】
此心はあり明の月を待いだしつると
いふ心にてたゞ一ト夜の義にあらず初
秋の比より今こんといひしばかりの
あだごとをさりともとまち〳〵てはや
長月のころとなり其人は来らず
して有明となる月をまちいだし
たりとあはれふかくよみなせり
此有明の月は廿日過きに出る月に
て長く待たるよしをことわれるなり

百人一首絵抄 二十一
【本文】
この心は有明の月を待ち出したということの
意味で、ただ一夜のことではなく、初
秋の頃から「今度来ます」と言ったばかりの
軽い言葉を、それでもきっとと待ち続けて、はや
九月の頃となり、その人は来ることなく、
有明の月を待ち出した、と情趣深く詠んだのである。
この有明の月は二十日過ぎに出る月で
長く待たされるということを説明しているのである。

【Main Text】
The meaning of this poem is about waiting for the moon at dawn. It is not just about one night, but from early autumn, based only on casual words saying "I will come soon," the poet waited faithfully, and by the time it became the ninth month, that person never came, and instead the poet waited for the dawn moon to appear. This is composed with deep pathos. This dawn moon refers to the moon that appears after the twentieth day of the lunar month, explaining the metaphor of long waiting.
