なけれはいつしか桜桃の花柳も糸を

の秋より待わひし御回向初日も近【「進」にも見えますが七行目に同じ字が出てきて「近」と読むほうが適していますので、ここでも「近」としました。】寄けれは
たかひに用意取紛れ軒を並へて家毎に
立連【たちつら】ねたるちやうちんには紅をもつて立春
と卍の紋を一様にし近をみれは形を分ち
遠きを見渡せは紅白の色をわかたすして
杏の林【「杏」は旅館などで婦人のこと、花柳界で情婦のことをいう。ここでは「婦人、女性」でいいのでは。「林」は比喩的に、物事の多く集まっているところの意。】しに入か如く暫く歩行【歩き行き】て横丁

猩々緋【「猩猩緋」＝「あざやかな深紅色。またその色に染めた舶来の毛織物。」】緋の羅脊板をもつてし五色の吹抜は絹木
綿を以てし棹のうへには金銀の玉または日月の形を
粧ひ夕陽赫〳〵【かくかく…日照りのさま。】たる時は綺羅星の如く玉を欺
幡吹流しは風に靡き空によこたはり幟に
風をしとむ声旅籠屋に旅人を止るこゑ
いつれをか聞わかたん 二天門【仁王門】より鋪石【しきいし】四丁
を歩行て御本堂なり左右に見世店
幾数十軒を並へ小間物善光寺みやけを商ひ
或は水くわし【水菓子】干菓子のたくひ御影

づけば、互いに用意に取り紛れ、軒を並べて家ごとに
立ち連ねた提灯には紅をもって「立春」
と卍の紋を一様にし、近くを見れば形を分かち、
遠くを見渡せば紅白の色を分かたずして、
女性たちの集まりに入るかのごとく、しばらく歩いて横丁や
路地を左に見、右に眺めれば、これもまた一
様にして、秋はまた後に紅葉の錦を

Before long, cherry and peach blossoms and willows trail their threads
in the spring breeze, and as the March festival passes by, the first day
of memorial services that had been eagerly awaited since last autumn draws
near. Everyone busily prepares, lining up their eaves, and house by house
they hang lanterns painted in red with "Beginning of Spring"
and swastika crests all in the same style. Looking closely, one can distinguish their forms,
but gazing into the distance, the red and white colors blend together,
as if entering into a gathering of women. Walking for a while, with side streets and
alleys to the left and scenery to the right, this too appears all
uniform, and in autumn will be layered with brocade of autumn leaves.

The donated votive banners from various neighborhoods are
made with bright crimson woolen cloth boards, five-colored streamers are made
with silk and cotton, and atop the poles are gold and silver orbs or sun and moon shapes
as decoration. When the evening sun shines brilliantly, they sparkle like stars, rivaling jewels.
The banners and streamers flutter in the wind, stretching across the sky, the sound of wind
caught in the flags, the voices of innkeepers calling travelers to stay—
which of these sounds can one distinguish? From the Niō gate, walking four chō
along the stone pavement to reach the main hall. On both sides are shops and stores,
dozens of them lined up, selling accessories and Zenkōji souvenirs,
or water sweets and dried confections, sacred images
