そもそも天地の変動は今も知れない浮世の中で、今年六月十五日の午後六時頃より、奥州海岸をはじめとして遠き蝦夷地の北海道まで百里あまりの津波の荒れがあった。これを詳しく尋ねて聞くところによると、旧暦五月五日であったので、両石町から在郷まで節句休みの折であったが、昼頃から黒雲が起こり、絶えず海鳴りと地震が続き、諸人が不思議に思っていたところ、ドーンと響く地震が大砲を一度に撃ったようであった。

Indeed, the upheavals of heaven and earth are still unknown in this floating world. From around 6 o'clock in the evening on June 15th of this year, a tsunami raged for over a hundred ri, beginning from the Ōshū coast and extending to the distant Ezo land of Hokkaido. When I inquired in detail about this, I learned that it was the 5th day of the 5th month in the old calendar, so from Ryōishi town to the countryside, people were taking their seasonal festival holiday. From around noon, black clouds arose, and sea roaring and earthquakes continued incessantly.
