近い。寺院もまた十一寺がある。文禄年中、豊太閤（豊臣秀吉）が尾張海西郡の長島を伊勢に属させ、篠島を尾張に定められたという。この島から四方を望めば、伊勢・志摩・三河の諸山が一望のうちにすべて見渡せる。微風といえども大波が山岳を動かし、船の航行は非常に困難である。南は海上が果てしなく広がり、視界を遮るものがなく、無限の大洋に通じている。まさに一つの小天地であり、民家は二百余家に及んでいる。また当国の罪人をこの島に流罪にするというが、土地の人とは混在させず、島の中でも区別している。
篠島書懐 松平君山 弊帚集
翠色の篠竹が孤島を囲み、神域は天の果てまで続く。帝の子（皇族）の足跡を人々は偲び、仙人の住処を想像する。五瀬（神武天皇の兄）の山々は連なり、三河に近く、岸を隔てて遠い。岩の周りに波が雪のように白く湧き上がり、渚の石に花が咲く。魚の目は朝日に輝き、蜃気楼が夕霞に包まれる。もし左遷の罪がなければ、月を見て歳月を送ることであろう。

During the Bunroku era (1592-1596), Toyotaikō (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) transferred Nagashima in Kaisai District, Owari to Ise Province, and designated Shinojima as part of Owari Province. Looking in all four directions from this island, all the mountains of Ise, Shima, and Mikawa provinces can be seen at a single glance. Even with a gentle breeze, great waves shake the mountains, making ship navigation extremely difficult. To the south, the sea stretches endlessly with nothing to obstruct the view, connecting to the boundless ocean. It is truly a small world unto itself, with over two hundred households. It is said that criminals from this province are exiled to this island, but they are not mixed with the local people and are kept separate even within the island.

Green bamboo grass surrounds the solitary island, the sacred precinct extends to the ends of heaven. People remember the traces of the imperial prince and imagine the dwelling of immortals. The mountains of Itsuse are connected, close to Mikawa, distant across the shore. Waves surge white as snow around the rocks, flowers bloom on the stones of the beach. Fish eyes sparkle in the morning sun, mirages are embraced by evening mist. If there were no crime of demotion, one would watch the moon and pass the years.
