かゝる非道の父子なれど天理に違へる先非を悔（く）い或は身のなり
行を案じつゝ兎角して年月を送りけるがそのゝち頼朝公の
武威日を追い烈（はげ）しく成ければ身を置に所なく父子十騎計り

長田父子は池のほとりで御首を洗わせた（割書：今、当寺の門前に血池というものがある。この池は天下に兵乱がある時は池の水が血に変わるという。また傍らに下馬橋というものがある。義朝の廟所を恐れて下馬した橋であろう）。これを持って上洛し、六波羅で恩賞を望んだところ、清盛の喜びようは並々ならぬものであったが、重盛がその不義を憎んで重い賞を与えず、ただ壱岐守の官位を与えられた。長田の思惑と違い、なお処刑されるかもしれないと思ったので、急いで尾張に下った。
このような非道な父子であったが、天理に背いた過去の罪を悔い、あるいは身の行く末を案じながら、なんとかして年月を送っていた。その後、頼朝公の武威が日を追って激しくなったので、身を置く場所もなく、父子十騎ほどで頭を下げて鎌倉へ参り、自分たちの罪を申し出た。すると「よくぞ参った。なお命を惜しまず抜群の軍功があれば、罪を許すのみならず美濃・尾張を与えよう」との厳命で、土肥次郎に預けられた。

The Nagata father and son washed the head by the pond (marginal note: Now there is a place called Blood Pool in front of the temple gate. It is said that when there is military turmoil in the realm, the water of this pool turns to blood. Also nearby is a bridge called Dismount Bridge, presumably the bridge where people dismounted out of reverence for Yoshitomo's mausoleum). They took this to the capital and sought reward at Rokuhara. Although Kiyomori's joy was extraordinary, Shigemori despised their treachery and did not grant them a great reward, giving only the title of Governor of Iki. This differed from Nagata's expectations, and fearing they might still be executed, they hurriedly returned to Owari.
Though they were such unrighteous father and son, they repented their past sins that went against heavenly principle, and spent their days worrying about their fate. Later, as Lord Yoritomo's military prestige grew fiercer day by day, they had nowhere to place themselves. The father and son, with about ten riders, humbly went to Kamakura and confessed their crimes. They were told: "You have done well to come. If you show outstanding military service without regard for your lives, not only will your crimes be pardoned, but you will be granted Mino and Owari provinces." With this stern command, they were entrusted to Doi Jirō.
