現代語訳
【上段】
○鶴は長さ三尺、高さ
三尺余り。嘴の長さは四、
五寸。頭頂と頬が赤く、
脚は青く、首が長く、指は
細く、羽は白く、翼は
黒い。夜中に鳴く
声が響いて交尾すると、
糞が石に変化する。
○コウノトリは鶴に似ていて、頭頂
が赤くなく、首が長く、
嘴は赤く、色は灰白で、翼
は黒い。高い木に巣を作る。
○ソウカツはソウケイである。
マナヅルのことである。
○雁は大きなものを鴻と
言い、小さなものを雁と言う。
長く食べ続けると
気を動かし、骨を
丈夫にする。
○ヒシクイは雁の大きなもの
である。江や中洲に多く集
まるので江と書く。
五臓を調え、丹石の
毒を解毒する。
○ハクチョウは雁より大きく、

[Upper section]
○The crane is three shaku long and over
three shaku tall. Its beak is four to
five sun long. Its crown and cheeks are red,
its legs are blue, its neck is long, its toes are
slender, its feathers are white, and its wings are
black. It cries at midnight,
and when its voice resonates during mating,
its droppings turn into stone.
○The stork resembles a crane, but its crown
is not red, its neck is long,
its beak is red, its color is gray-white, and its wings
are black. It nests in tall trees.
○Sōkatsu is sōkei.
It refers to the white-naped crane.
○Among geese, the large ones are called
kō and the smaller ones are called gan.
If eaten for a long time,
it stimulates qi and
strengthens the bones.
○Hishikui is a large type
of goose. Because they gather in large numbers
on rivers and sandbars, it is written with the character for "river."
It benefits the five organs and
neutralizes the poison of cinnabar.
○The swan is larger than geese,
with white feathers and flies high. Its taste is
sweet and it has no toxicity. It increases human
vitality and [benefits] the internal organs.
