【上段】
○孔雀は大きさが雁より
大きく、高さは四尺である。
頭に三本の毛を頂き、
長さは一寸余り。全身は
緑色で光沢があり、
尾の玉は青く光る。
人が手を打って歌えば
尾を広げて舞う。
○錦鶏は山鳥に
似ているが小さく、羽の色は五
色である。孔雀の羽
のようである。鷩雉、
采鶏も同じ。
○白鷴は山鶏に似て
いて色は白く、黒い模様
がある。尾の長さは三、四
尺ばかりある。食用にす
れば体を補い、毒を
解く効果がある。

[Upper section]
○The peacock is larger than a goose,
with a height of four shaku.
It has three feathers on its head,
about one sun in length. Its entire body
is green with luster,
and the eye-spots on its tail shine blue.
When people clap their hands and sing,
it spreads its tail and dances.
○The golden pheasant resembles
a mountain bird but is smaller, with feathers of five
colors. It is like the peacock's
feathers. Biechi and
saikei are the same.
○The silver pheasant resembles
a mountain chicken and is white in color with black patterns.
Its tail is about three to four
shaku long. When eaten,
it supplements the body and
neutralizes poison.
