現代語訳
【上段】
○山雀（ヤマガラ）はスズメほどの大きさで、頭が黒く、背中も黒く、腹はかき色（柿色）である。羽の使い方が軽やかでよく慣れるため、籠に入れて飼うのに適している。
○鴰（ヒガラ）はシジュウカラに似ているが小さい。これも飼うのに良い。毛色が美しい。
○小雀（コガラ）はヒガラに似ているが非常に小さい。いずれも秋の終わりに渡ってくる。
○繍眼児（メジロ）はスズメより小さく、羽色は萌黄色で、腹は薄黄色である。目の周りが白い。多数が集まり、枝に押し合うようにとまる鳥である。
○エナガは非常に小さな鳥である。頭頂は灰白色、羽色は薄い黒灰白の毛が混じり、薄赤い毛もある。尾が長い。秋から冬にかけて群れでやって来る。

[Upper section]
○The Yamagara (varied tit) is about the size of a sparrow, with a black head, black back, and persimmon-colored belly. Its wing movements are light and it tames well, making it suitable for keeping in cages.
○The Higara (coal tit) resembles the shijūkara but is smaller. This one is also good for keeping as a pet. Its feather colors are beautiful.
○The Kogara (willow tit) resembles the higara but is extremely small. All of these migrate at the end of autumn.
○The Mejiro (Japanese white-eye) is smaller than a sparrow. Its feather color is yellowish-green, and its belly is pale yellow. The area around its eyes is white. Many gather together and perch pressed against each other on branches.
○The Enaga (long-tailed tit) is an extremely small bird. Its crown is grayish-white, its feather colors are a mixture of light black and grayish-white with some pale reddish feathers. Its tail is long. They come in flocks from autumn through winter.
