漢種のものである。葉は五つの尖りがあって厚く硬く、光沢がある。花は紅色で黒い蕊がある。茎の高さは三尺ばかり。根は培養すれば甚だ肥大になる。肉は薄い白色で軟らかく上品である。

White Atractylodes (Atractylodes macrocephala)
This is of Chinese variety. The leaves have five pointed tips, are thick and hard, with a glossy surface. The flowers are reddish in color with black stamens. The stem height is about three shaku. When the roots are cultivated, they become very large and fat. The flesh is pale white in color, soft, and of superior quality.

There is one variety with narrow leaves that comes from Bishū Province. The flowers are reddish in color and the roots are the same as those of the Chinese variety.
