赤箭天麻 ぬすびとのあし
諸国の山野に4月に生える。今年生えた場所には翌年は生えない。苗が5、6寸の時に掘り採ると根が充実している。長く成長すると3、4尺になり、梢に穂をつけて黄色い花を開く。形は朝鮮人参に似ているが大きい。花の下に莢を結び、中に黄色い粉がある。

一種で緑の茎で白花のものがある。これを一説では雷斆の説による御風草に当てるが、御風草は葉の裏が白いとされているので、適当ではない。

Red Arrow Gastrodia (Gastrodia elata) Common name: "nusubito no ashi" (thief's foot)
It grows in mountains and fields throughout the provinces in the fourth month. Where it grows this year, it will not grow the next year. When the shoots are 5-6 sun tall, if you dig and harvest them, the roots are substantial. When it grows tall, it reaches 3-4 shaku in height, forms spikes at the tips, and opens yellow flowers. The shape resembles ginseng but is larger. It forms pods below the flowers, containing yellow powder inside.

There is one variety with green stems and white flowers. According to one theory, this corresponds to the "御風草" (gofūsō) mentioned in Raigaku's theory, but since gofūsō is said to have white leaf backs, this identification is not appropriate.
