蒼朮（さうじゆつ）　漢種（かんしゆ）なり葉に又（また）なく旋覆（をくるまの）葉（は）に似て硬（かた）く
　　　　茎（くき）を抱（いだい）て生す花白色 形（かたち）をけらと同く根 連（れん）
　　　　珠（しゆ）の如く肉（にく）淡黄（うすき）色これを折（をれ）は脂膏（やに）多（おほ）し

現代語訳

【右丁　挿図あり】
蒼朮（そうじゅつ）　漢種である。葉には又がなく、旋覆花の葉に似て硬く、茎を抱いて生える。花は白色で、形はオケラと同じ。根は連珠のようで、肉は淡黄色。これを折ると脂膏が多い。上品である。

非常に薄い黄褐色の点がある。

一種　これもまた漢種であるという。葉はカリンに似て深緑色で光沢がある。葉は茎を抱かない。根は和産の蒼朮に似て花は白い。

英語訳

Atractylodes lancea (Sōjutsu) - This is the Chinese variety. The leaves have no divisions and resemble those of Inula japonica, being hard and growing clasping the stem. The flowers are white in color, with the same shape as Atractylodes japonica. The roots are like a string of beads, with pale yellow flesh. When broken, they contain much resinous sap. This is a superior grade.

There are very pale yellow-brown spots.

One variety - This is also said to be a Chinese variety. The leaves resemble those of Chaenomeles (quince), being deep green in color with a lustrous appearance. The leaves do not clasp the stem. The roots resemble those of Japanese Atractylodes lancea and the flowers are white.
