それ十二 一重（ひとへ）といふは雲（くも）の
上人（うへひと）のめさるゝ礼服（れいふく）にて中人（ちうにん）
以下にしりて益（ゑき）なしまつ
女の礼服（れいふく）は地黒（ぢくろ）地赤（ぢあか）を
第一とす地（ぢ）白地（しろち）うこん
を次とす其外（そのほか）の染色（そめいろ）は
礼（れい）にたらずうちかけの
下はひぢりめんたるべし
扨（さて）もやうは御所方（ごしよかた）武家方（ぶけかた）
町風（まちふう）の差別（しやべつ）あれば一 概（がい）に
言（いひ）がたし素縫（すぬひ）のもやうは
町（まち）かたは用（やう）なしといへども
高位（かうい）の御方の召（めさ）るゝ物（もの）
なればはゞかるべきこと也
扨（さて）綿入（わたいれ）の服（ふく）は三月卅日まで
四月朔日より袷（あはせ）をきる五月
五日より帷子（かたびら）を着すかた
びらは地黒（ぢくろ）地 白（しろ）うこんを
重（をも）とす扨八月朔日より袷（あはせ）
の物なれども八月の初（はじめ）は残暑（さんしよ）
さらに退（しりそか）ずよつて九月朔日より
袷（あはせ）をきる物（もの）のやうに覚（をぼ）ゆるはあやまりなり
九月九日より綿入（わたいれ）の服（ふく）なり衣桁（いこう）かざり衣裳（いしやう）は時節（しせつ）の色（いろ）を第一とす
春（はる）は青色（あをいろ）夏（なつ）は赤（あか）。土用（どやう）は黄（き）。秋（あき）は白（しろ）。冬（ふゆ）は黒（くろ）と時（とき）のいろを上にすると心（こゝろ）得べし

さて十二単（ひとえ）というのは雲上人（公家）が着用する礼服であって、中級以下の人が知っていても益はない。まず女性の礼服は地黒・地赤を第一とする。地白・鬱金を次とする。その他の染色は礼装には適さない。打掛の下は緋縮緬であるべきである。
さて模様は御所方・武家方・町風の違いがあるので一概には言い難い。素縫いの模様は町方は用いないといっても、高位の方が召される物なので憚るべきことである。
さて綿入れの服は三月三十日まで、四月一日より袷を着る。五月五日より帷子を着る。帷子は地黒・地白・鬱金を重要とする。さて八月一日より袷の物であるが、八月の初めは残暑がまったく退かないので、九月一日より袷を着るもののように思うのは誤りである。九月九日より綿入れの服である。
衣桁飾り衣裳は季節の色を第一とする。春は青色、夏は赤、土用は黄、秋は白、冬は黒と、季節の色を上位にすると心得るべきである。

Now, the twelve-layered court dress (jūnihitoe) is the formal attire worn by court nobles, and it is of no benefit for middle-class people and below to know about it. First, women's formal dress should primarily be in black or red fabric. White fabric and turmeric yellow come second. Other dyed colors are not suitable for formal wear. The undergarment beneath the outer robe should be crimson silk crepe.
Now, as there are differences in patterns between court style, warrior house style, and townspeople's style, it cannot be generalized. Although townspeople do not use plain-sewn patterns, since they are worn by people of high rank, one should be respectful of this.
Now, cotton-padded clothing is worn until March 30th, lined clothing from April 1st. Summer kimono (katabira) from May 5th. For katabira, black fabric, white fabric, and turmeric are considered important. Now, although lined clothing is appropriate from August 1st, since the lingering summer heat does not abate at all in early August, thinking that lined clothing should be worn from September 1st is an error. Cotton-padded clothing is worn from September 9th.
For clothing displayed on clothing racks, seasonal colors should be given first priority. Spring is blue, summer is red, midsummer (doyō period) is yellow, autumn is white, winter is black - one should understand that seasonal colors take precedence.
