現代語訳
「しゃらくさい、化け物にもせよ初鰹なら一口と思ったのに。辛子味噌はいらないが、湯豆腐のねぎ味噌が欲しい」と思うところに、娘道成寺の化け物が現れる。なぜ道成寺が味噌かけ酒になると思えば、手まり歌を歌う。
【続き】「盆の牡丹餅、四文餅より旨い。小豆に甘い黄な粉に、無理の早食い。これが本に食うじゃ、ひいふうみいよう。テンツツツン、テンツツ、テンツツツン」と踊る拍子に鬘は落ちて、娘が坊主、坊主が野郎になって、「さっさあ、ござれや節季候、北方、テンツツ」と闇へしくたと踊るゆえ、
「しゃらくさい、待て待て、こいつらはあまりちゃかした化け物め。歌もあろうに牡丹餅道成寺とは野暮な奴。今出た初鰹の化け物はよっぽど気が利いた」と言えば、「利いたかかか」という。「利いたかかかとは辛子味噌ということか。のろまの書いた辛子のようで、さっぱり利かねえはずりで、のろま狂言をしおった。わいらはのろまの蕗味噌か」と言えば、「はいはい、私どもはその蕗の薹の精でございます」と勝手気ままにこの内へ入りぬ。
英語訳

As she dances to this rhythm, her wig falls off, and the maiden becomes a monk, the monk becomes a young man, chanting "Come quickly, year-end bill collector, northern direction, ten-tsu-tsu," dancing wildly into the darkness.
"How absurd! Wait, wait! You creatures are far too frivolous supernatural beings. Of all the songs available, 'Rice Cake Dōjōji' - what boorish fellows! That first bonito supernatural creature that just appeared was much more clever," he says. They respond, "Clever ka-ka-ka?" "Clever ka-ka-ka - does that mean mustard miso? Like mustard written by a simpleton, it has absolutely no bite at all. That's why you performed such a dull kyōgen play. Are you simpletons with butterbur miso?" he asks. "Yes, yes, we are indeed the spirits of those butterbur sprouts," they say, and brazenly enter the house.
