此心はわきてながるゝいづみ川の
えん也いずみきといはんためにいづ
み川をいえりわがふかくあひ見し人
の今はたへはてゝその顔をもおぼえ
ぬばかりなるに思ひはなをもやまず
我のみ何ゆへかく水のわくごとく久し
くも見ぬ人の恋しくあるらん
われと我心をことはりたる也みかの
原いづみ川は山城の国の名所也

【本文】
この心は特別に湧き出て流れる泉川の縁で、泉来（いずみき）と言うために泉川を詠んだのです。私が深く愛し合った人が、今はもう絶えてしまって、その顔も思い出せないほどになってしまったのに、恋しい気持ちはまだ止むことがありません。なぜ私だけが、このように水が湧くように、長い間会わない人を恋しく思い続けるのでしょうか。
自分で自分の心に問いかけた歌です。みかの原の泉川は山城国の名所です。

【Main Text】
This heart refers to the spring water that flows particularly abundantly at Izumi River. The poem uses "Izumi River" to create a wordplay with "izumi ki" (spring coming). The person I once loved deeply has now completely disappeared from my life, and I can barely remember their face, yet my longing feelings still do not cease. Why do I alone continue to miss someone I haven't seen for so long, like water continuously springing forth?
This is a poem where the poet questions his own heart. Mikano-hara's Izumi River is a famous place in Yamashiro Province.
