勅願なり慶長二年七月十八日太閤秀吉公の命に依
て如来を京都大仏殿に移されしに仏意に応さす
れはしばしば御崇めて還住の御告あるに任せ同年八
月信濃国に帰らせ給ふ是普く人の知る所にて日本三
如来の第一なりされハは此度もかゝる異変の折からも御
堂恙なく籠れる衆生の命全く存在せし事末世の
いまに於て猶利験いちりしくいよいよ信心偈仰
し奉るへきことにこそ

現代語訳
勅願である。慶長二年七月十八日、太閤秀吉公の命によって如来を京都大仏殿に移されたが、仏意に叶わなかったためか、しばしば御崇りがあって還住の御告げがあるのに従い、同年八月に信濃国に帰らせ給うた。これは広く人の知るところで、日本三如来の第一である。だからこそ、今度もこのような異変の折からも御堂は無事で、籠もった衆生の命が全く無事に存在したことは、末世の今においても霊験はいちじるしく、いよいよ信心を深く仰ぎ奉るべきことである。

英語訳
This was an imperial vow temple. On July 18, Keicho 2 (1597), by order of Taiko Hideyoshi, the Nyorai Buddha was moved to the Great Buddha Hall in Kyoto, but it did not accord with the Buddha's will, so there were frequent divine curses, and following the oracle commanding its return, it was returned to Shinano Province in August of the same year. This is widely known, and it is the foremost of Japan's three Nyorai Buddhas. Therefore, even during such extraordinary disasters as this recent one, the hall remained unharmed, and the lives of the sentient beings who took refuge there were completely preserved. Even in these latter days, the spiritual efficacy remains remarkable, and we should deepen our faith and reverence all the more.
