光卿に新川一郡を以て養老領となす。新川はその貢納高が甚だ夥多で、加賀一国にも劣らないという。本多安房守政重は徳川家大老本多佐渡守正信の二男上野介正純の弟である。慶長十六年八月に再び我が藩に仕え、五万石を賜る旨の約定があったが、三万石を賜り、追って二万石加恩があるとの約諾があったと本多譜に載せてある。然るに慶長十九年五月二十日に利長卿が薨去し、六月十三日に本多政重の家禄二万石が加恩されて五万石となった。七月十三日に本多政重等が利光卿の使いとして駿府に到り、利長卿の遺物を献上し、本多上野介を以て披露し、遺領新川郡の事を伺った。家康公が聞き召され、利光に賜るべしとの台命があったという。《割書:この文意は勘考すべし》

[Toshinaga] made Niikawa District the retirement territory for Lord Mitsumitsu. Niikawa's tribute rice assessment was extremely large, said to be no less than that of the entire province of Kaga. Honda Awa-no-kami Shigemasa was the younger brother of Honda Kōzuke-no-suke Masazumi, the second son of Honda Sado-no-kami Masanobu, an elder of the Tokugawa house. In Keichō 16, 8th month, he re-entered service with our domain, and there was an agreement that he would be granted 50,000 koku, but he was granted 30,000 koku with a promise of an additional 20,000 koku to be added later, as recorded in the Honda genealogy. However, on the 20th day of the 5th month of Keichō 19, Lord Toshinaga passed away, and on the 13th day of the 6th month, Honda Shigemasa's stipend was increased by 20,000 koku to make it 50,000 koku. On the 13th day of the 7th month, Honda Shigemasa and others went to Sunpu as emissaries of Lord Mitsumitsu, presented Lord Toshinaga's posthumous gifts, and through Honda Kōzuke-no-suke, made inquiries about the matter of the inherited territory of Niikawa District. Lord Ieyasu heard this and issued an imperial command that it should be granted to Mitsumitsu. {{Marginal note: This passage should be carefully examined}}
First, [the domain] was granted land in Imazu and Hirokawa villages in Takashima District, Ōmi Province. A copy of Taikō's vermillion seal document is as follows:
Ōmi Province, Takashima District, Imazu Nishihama: 928 koku 4 shō
The same, within Hirokawa: 936 koku 5 to 3 shō
Total: 1,864 koku 5 to 7 shō
This is to provide assistance for lodging places for those traveling up and down [the road]. [You] shall have complete territorial control.
