は。天どうじ三人あまくだり。くわうみやうかくや
くとして。家（いゑ）のうちをてらしけり。人々ふし
ぎのおもひをなして。われも〳〵と出てみる。父
の田公（たぎみ）仰けるは。むかしよりこのかた。しかるべき
めいしやうのむまれ給ひし折からは。よろづのき
どくこれおほしと。ふるき書（しよ）にみえたりとて。
家（いゑ）を立出見給へば。天どうじは雲にのりて。こくう
はるかにあがり給ふ。くわう明（みやう）はやゝ久しくして
天にひきあかりけり。いかさま此子は世（よ）のつねの
人にはあらじ。天下に其（その）名をほどこし。または

出家の身となりつゝ。ほまれはかならすたかゝらん
と。いさみよろこび給へは。一門一 家（つけ）の人〳〵も聞
つたへはせ参り。此きどくをかんしつゝ。悦（よろこ）ぶ事
は限（かぎ）りなし。父母は夢の事をおもひ出ておさな名（な）
をは貴物（たうともの）とぞ付（つけ）られける。此子むまれ出給ふより。
さらにみだりになく事なし。おなしほどの小児（せうに）
を友とし。竹馬（ちくば）にたはふれ芥鶏（がいけい）のあそひをす
るにも。事をあらため理（り）をきはめておとなし
くましませは。人みなふしきのおもひをなす

現代語訳

天童子三人が天から降りてきて、光明が輝いて家の中を照らした。人々は不思議に思って、われもわれもと出てきて見た。父の田公が仰ったことには、「昔からこれまで、しかるべき名将が生まれた時には、万の奇跡が多いと、古い書物に見えている」と言って、家を出て見ると、天童子は雲に乗って、虚空はるかに上がっていかれた。光明はしばらく久しく天に引いて明るかった。きっとこの子は世の常の人ではないだろう。天下にその名を広め、または出家の身となって、名誉は必ず高いだろうと、勇んで喜んでいると、一門一家の人々も聞き伝えて参り、この奇跡に感嘆しながら、喜ぶことは限りなかった。父母は夢のことを思い出して、幼名を貴物（とうとも）と付けた。この子がお生まれになってからは、全くむやみに泣くことがない。同じ年頃の小児を友として、竹馬で戯れ、闘鶏の遊びをするにも、物事を改め理を究めて大人しくしていらっしゃるので、人は皆不思議に思う。

英語訳

Three heavenly children descended from heaven, and their brilliant light illuminated the interior of the house. People found this wondrous and came out one after another to see. The father Takimi said, "From ancient times until now, when destined great figures have been born, myriad miracles have occurred, as recorded in old writings." When he stepped outside to look, the heavenly children rode upon clouds and ascended far into the void. The brilliant light continued for quite some time, drawing brightness across the sky. Surely this child is no ordinary person of this world. He will spread his name throughout the realm, or perhaps become a monk and surely achieve great honor. As they rejoiced with excitement, people from the entire clan and household heard the news and came, marveling at these miracles with boundless joy. The parents, remembering the dream, gave the child the childhood name Tōtomo (Noble One). From the time this child was born, he never cried without reason. When playing with other children of the same age, riding bamboo horses and playing at cockfighting, he would always conduct himself properly and reasonably, behaving so maturely that everyone found it mysterious.
