人間の日常生活でなくてはならないものは、衣食住の三つである。その中でも食は人を養う徳があって、天地の正報というべきである。あらゆる所帯道具は、その食を作り出すための依報であって、みなそれぞれの用途がある。一つとして無駄なものはないけれども、なおも粗末にしないようにと、台所を司る荒神様が道具使用の務めの仕方を一つ一つ帳面に記し、毎月三十日には改めて、励む者には賞を

与え、怠る者には罰を加えて、ただ倹約の道を教え聞かせてくださる。ありがたいことである。
♪「国を治めるは小魚を煮るが如し」と言われる。また家内を治めるのは重箱で味噌をするようにせよ、つまり隅々まで行き届かないようにするのがよい、ということである。あまり細かくしすぎると吝嗇ということになって、倹約とは言うべきではない。倹約の道は驕らず高ぶらず、所持する家がないようにするをいう。
鍋釜といえば所帯道具の頭であるけれども、金の鶴より金々の花も咲かず、お釜を怒らせた例もなければ、すり鉢の味噌をあげるのも片口のおしゃべりなのも、一升入る壺は一升であって、その分限を知るべきである。下女が杓子あたりがよいといって、これに心を迷わせばたちまち山の神が荒れ出して、果ては夫婦喧嘩となって、ついにすり鉢すり棒のみに過ちがあるだろう。とかく倹約を守るのはお前たちの役目であるから、第一番に火の用心を特に大切にし、次には朝晩の食物に

♪It is said that "governing a country is like cooking small fish." Also, governing a household should be like making miso in a jūbako box - meaning it's better not to reach into every corner. If one becomes too meticulous, it becomes miserliness and should not be called frugality. The way of frugality means not being arrogant or haughty, and acting as if one has no possessions.
Though pots and kettles are the heads of household utensils, neither golden cranes nor glittering flowers bloom from them, and there are no examples of angering a pot. Whether it's the mortar raising its miso or the katakuchi's chatter, a one-shō pot holds one shō, and one should know its proper measure. If a maid thinks the ladle area is good and becomes confused by this, immediately the mountain god becomes angry, leading to marital quarrels, and finally only the mortar and pestle will be at fault. In any case, maintaining frugality is your duty, so first and foremost take special care with fire prevention, and next ensure there is no waste in morning and evening meals
