永長元年十一月二十四日、地震があり古今無比であった。人々は皆叫喚した。主上は御船にお乗りになった。
永長二年 承徳元年と改元
○中右記 永長二年七月六日申の刻頃、大地震があった。
昨夜半頃にも地震があった。
八月六日夜半頃に地震があった。
八日、今日卯の刻頃に小地震があった。去る今年は天変地震が頻繁に現れ、その変異は最も恐れるべきものがある。
十一月二十一日、改元があったという。承徳である。

On the 24th day of the 11th month of Eichō 1, there was an earthquake incomparable in all of history. All the people cried out in distress. His Majesty boarded the imperial boat.
Eichō 2 Changed to Jōtoku 1
○Chūyūki [Middle Right Record] On the 6th day of the 7th month of Eichō 2, around the hour of the Monkey, there was a great earthquake.
Around midnight last night there was also an earthquake.
On the 6th day of the 8th month, around midnight, there was an earthquake.
On the 8th, today around the hour of the Rabbit, there was a small earthquake. This past year, celestial omens and earthquakes have appeared frequently, and these abnormal phenomena are most fearsome.
On the 21st day of the 11th month, there was an era change. [The new era name is] Jōtoku.
