大地震があった。戊子、地震があった。己丑、地震があり、午の刻にも大きく動き、未の刻にまた動いた。
謹んで按ずるに、この後八月・九月・十月・十一月・十二月と連続して地震があったが、今これを略す。
十二月辛丑、地震があり、清行僧百口を大極殿に屈請して大般若経を三箇日転読させ、地震を止めるためとした。

淳和天皇天長五年六月丁巳、地震があった。己未、地震があった。辛未、雷鳴があり雨が降り、山崩れと水溢れがあった。《この条は帝王部》己卯、大地震があった。七月壬子、詔して曰く云々、このごろ坤徳が僣叙し、山崩れ・地震があり、妖異は自ら作るものではなく、咎は実に人による。疑うにこれは八政のいずれかが道に外れ、一物が所を失ったのではないか。静かに言えばその過ちは朕躬に責任があり、天威を畏れ敬い、鑑みることを忘れない。その天下の牢獄に冤罪・滞留がある者は、有司が覆審して情状を調べ、申理を得させよ。また道殣を収葬し、骸骨を掩い、腐肉を埋め、班白の者は提指の事を使わず、老人・丁の傜役を永く寛免せよ。八十歳以上及び鰥寡孤独で自存できない者には節級に物を賜い、早くもって須示し、咸く聞知せしめよ。

There was a great earthquake. Day of Wuzi: There was an earthquake. Day of Jichou: There was an earthquake, and at the hour of the Horse there was also great movement, and at the hour of the Goat there was movement again.
Respectfully noting: After this, there were continuous earthquakes in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th months, but these are abbreviated here.
12th month, day of Xinchou: There was an earthquake, and one hundred pure-conduct monks were respectfully requested to come to the Daigokuden to recite the Mahāprajñāpāramitā Sūtra for three days in order to stop the earthquakes.

Emperor Junna, 5th year of Tenchō, 6th month, day of Dingsi: There was an earthquake. Day of Jiwei: There was an earthquake. Day of Xinwei: There was thunder, rain fell, mountains collapsed and water overflowed. 《This passage is from the Imperial section》 Day of Jimao: There was a great earthquake. 7th month, day of Renzi: An imperial edict was issued saying: "Recently the virtue of Earth has been disrupted, mountains have collapsed and earthquakes have occurred. Strange phenomena do not create themselves - the fault truly lies with people. I suspect that one of the eight governmental principles has gone astray, or that something has lost its proper place. Speaking quietly of these errors, the responsibility lies with my own person. I fear and revere the majesty of Heaven and do not forget to reflect upon this. For those in the realm's prisons who suffer from false accusations or delays, let the officials re-examine and investigate their circumstances so they may obtain justice. Also, collect and bury the dead on roadsides, cover bones and bury rotting flesh. Do not use elderly people with white hair for corvée labor, and permanently grant lenient exemption from the corvée service of old men and conscripts. For those eighty years and older, as well as widowers, widows, orphans, and those unable to sustain themselves, grant gifts according to their rank, and quickly make this known so all may hear of it."
