辺大地震引続一昨十四日迄日々昼夜震動いたし候
てハ地震致し貴賤上下一向安き心も無之何れ大雨にて
も無之内ハ相止申間敷と風聞に御座候而誠に京洛中洛外
とも目も当られぬ事ともに御座候
一御所内も殊外大破外廻り御築地ハ不残倒れ二条御
城御堀石垣崩れ拾間余之場所共に堀へ打込両御番所の
御小屋不残相潰れ御番頭も野宿同様且御番衆御小屋
七十軒余震潰し中二二条御城内外の破損斗にて
も容易不成事二候大手御門も震倒し石垣崩通路難
成程に有之大手先大地十尺余巾壱尺余割泥を吹出し

別紙でお伝えします。さて、当月二日夕方七時、京都・伏見・大津
一帯に大地震があり、引き続き一昨日十四日まで日々昼夜震動し続けています。
地震により、身分の貴賤上下を問わず全く安心できる気持ちもありません。どうやら大雨でも
降らない限りは止まないだろうという風聞があり、本当に京都市内・郊外
ともに目も当てられない状況です。
一、御所内も特に大破しており、外回りの築地は残らず倒れ、二条城では
堀の石垣が崩れ、十間余りの場所が堀に打ち込まれ、両御番所の
御小屋は残らず潰れ、御番頭も野宿同様です。また御番衆の御小屋
七十軒余りが震災で潰れ、その中でも二条城内外の破損だけでも
容易ならざることです。大手門も震動で倒れ、石垣が崩れて通行困難な
程度になっています。大手先では大地が十尺余り、幅一尺余り割れて泥を吹き出しています。

I write this in a separate letter. On the evening of the 2nd of this month at seven o'clock, there was a great earthquake in the Kyoto, Fushimi, and Ōtsu
area, and tremors have continued day and night until the day before yesterday, the 14th.
Due to the earthquakes, people of all social ranks, high and low, have no peace of mind whatsoever. There are rumors that it will not stop unless there is heavy rain,
and truly both inside and outside the capital of Kyoto
present scenes too terrible to behold.
1. The Imperial Palace is also severely damaged, with all the surrounding earthen walls collapsed. At Nijō Castle,
the stone walls of the moat have crumbled, and sections of over ten ken have fallen into the moat. Both guard stations'
huts have completely collapsed, and even the guard captains are sleeping outdoors. Moreover, over seventy
guard huts have been destroyed by the earthquake. Among these, the damage to Nijō Castle alone, both inside and outside,
is no trivial matter. The main gate has also collapsed from the tremors, the stone walls have crumbled making passage difficult
to such a degree. At the approach to the main gate, the ground has cracked over ten shaku, with a width of over one shaku, spewing forth mud.
