二日朝比より大地震の跡ハ火事ジヤ〃と申て銘々其
用意を仕二條河原近在江引越候もの数多雷か大雨
にても有之候て夫にて心納り候へ共其後雨者誠に
しるし斗四日夜七時に降り申候今朝ゟ先少し世間
納り候得共所によりてハ道具なと迄今に至り近在な
どへはこび居申候誠に夜ハ夜露に打れ昼ハ照付ら
れ今に折々ゆりハ有之カ火事之所沙汰仕実に心落付
兼世間一体困り入居候御店義ハ三日夜より通例に寝
り申候一夜も門二ハ寝不申候間丈夫に候へ共世間にハ
病人多出来困り入居申候何卒ゆりも早く相止無別条
納り候様而己祈居候京中に石燈籠石砕鳥居其侭有
之所壱分通迄も無御座候半潰たる蔵なとも折々のゆり
に追々かたむき出しにハ窮誠に青き顔の家多御座候
京都并丹波の亀山大荒に御座候大津伏見なとも家蔵
なと潰れ候処有之様子なれとも格別の事ハ無之噺也
東ハ江州北ハ若狭西ハ丹後南ハ大坂夫より内の荒に
御座候大坂なとハ誠に聊の地震に御座候中々筆にも
任ぬ訳御座候右二付大工手伝左官手間代凡日々拾
匁位夫二ても中々容易に手廻り不申候御店義ハ格別

二日朝頃より大地震の後は火事だ火事だと言って、それぞれその
用意をして二条河原や近在へ引っ越した者が数多くいました。雷か大雨
でもあるのかと思ってそれで納得しましたが、その後雨は本当に
わずかばかりで、四日夜七時に降りました。今朝からまず少し世間は
落ち着きましたが、場所によっては道具なども今に至るまで近在
などへ運んでいます。本当に夜は夜露に打たれ、昼は照りつけられ、
今でも時々揺れはありますが、火事の心配をして実に心が落ち着かず、
世間一体困り果てています。お店は三日夜より通常通り寝ています。
一夜も門では寝ませんでしたので大丈夫ですが、世間には
病人が多く出来て困り果てています。何とか揺れも早く止まり、何事もなく
落ち着くようにとばかり祈っています。京中で石灯籠・石碑・鳥居がそのまま残っている
ところは一分通りもありません。半壊した蔵なども時々の揺れで
だんだん傾いてきており、困って本当に青ざめた顔の家が多くあります。
京都並びに丹波の亀山は大荒れです。大津・伏見なども家蔵
などが潰れたところがあるようですが、格別なことはないという話です。
東は江州、北は若狭、西は丹後、南は大坂、それより内側の荒れ具合
です。大坂などは本当にわずかな地震でした。とても筆にも
表せない状況です。これに付いて大工・手伝い・左官の手間代は大体日々十
匁位で、それでもなかなか容易に手が回りません。お店は格別
な損害はありませんでした。まずは大体右の件をお知らせしたく、本当に取り紛れて前後

From around the morning of the second day after the great earthquake, people were crying "Fire! Fire!" and many
prepared accordingly, evacuating to Nijo Riverbank and nearby areas. We thought it might be thunder or heavy rain

Kyoto and Kameyana in Tamba Province are severely damaged. It seems that in Otsu, Fushimi and other places, houses and storehouses
have also collapsed, but the talk is that there is nothing particularly serious.
To the east is Gōshū, to the north Wakasa, to the west Tango, to the south Osaka—this describes the extent of the damage
within these boundaries. Places like Osaka experienced truly only slight earthquakes. The situation is beyond
description in writing. Regarding this, the daily wages for carpenters, laborers, and plasterers are about ten
monme per day, but even so, it is not easy to get enough workers. Our shop sustained no particular
