《割書：治る｜御代》ひやかし鯰
賑（にきハ）う江戸（ゑど）の花川戸（はなかハど）設（もうか）り宅（たく）の
繁昌（はんじやう）を見物（けんぶつ）せんとぬら
くらと格子（かうし）をのぞく大鯰（おほなまづ）
かむろが見付（ミつけ）てさゝやけば
おいらんハとんで出（いで）無理（むり）に
とらえんとすれど抜（ぬけ）つ
くゞりつつらまらねば
もしへ早（はや）くひやうたんを
持（もつ）て来（き）なましといへバ
気転（きてん）のきゝし若（わか）イ者（もの）これで
おさへれば大丈夫（だいじやうぶ）だと徳利（とつくり）を
持来（もちきた）れバ何（なん）の苦（く）もなくおさへしゆへ
是ハふしきと能々（よく〳〵）見れバ鹿嶋（かじま）の
徳利（とつくり）だ

現代語訳
『治る御代ひやかし鯰』
賑わう江戸の花川戸で儲かる家の
繁盛を見物しようとぬらくらと
格子を覗く大鯰。
禿が見つけてささやけば、
花魁は飛んで出てきて無理に
捕らえようとするが、鯰は抜け出し
くぐり抜けて捕まらない。
「もし、早くひょうたんを
持って来なさい」と言えば、
気転の利いた若い者が「これで
押さえれば大丈夫だ」と徳利を
持参したところ、何の苦もなく押さえることができたので、
「これは不思議だ」とよくよく見れば鹿島の
徳利だった。
女郎：「もし、あなたはあんまり
騒がせるよ。この界隈も出し抜けに
騒動して大騒ぎを
させなさいました。
店も
二階も
一時に
ひねり回されては
目が回るよう。
義理が悪いや」
客：「そのひげを
離して
くれないか。それを
抜いたらお前の
心意気も
よほど
硬いひげだ」
英語訳
"Chilling Out the Catfish in the Peaceful Reign"
A giant catfish sneaks around and peeks through the lattice
to observe the prosperity of a thriving house
in bustling Hanakawado, Edo.
When a young apprentice spots it and whispers,
a courtesan flies out and tries
to catch it by force, but the catfish slips away,
wriggling through and escaping capture.
"Hey, quickly bring
a gourd!" she says.
A quick-witted young man declares "This will
hold it down securely!" and brings a sake bottle.
With this, they easily restrain it, so
wondering "This is strange," they look closely and see it's a
Kashima sake bottle.
Courtesan: "Hey, you really
made too much of a commotion! You suddenly
caused a disturbance in this neighborhood
and made a great fuss.
The shop
and second floor
all at once—
when everything gets twisted around,
it makes one dizzy!
How embarrassing!"
Customer: "Let go of
those whiskers,
won't you? If you pull
them out, your
spirit would be
quite as
hard as those whiskers."
