現代語訳
なされませんなら、越前守殿のお心にも叶わず申さず、その上お国も落ち着かないでしょうと、その趣を得心いたしました。仙菊殿のためによいようにとお思し召しになる儀も尤もと存じます。しかし上は、是非とも明日明後日のうちに御登城なされて年頭の御勤仕をなさるのがよろしいと存じます。貴様の御代に御官位もお進みにならなければ、仙菊殿に官位を仰せ付けられる様子もございません。その上当年は常陸介殿、松平大七殿、仙菊殿の官位のお沙汰もございません。万一貴殿様が御登城もなさらなければ、御名代を仰せ付けられることもあろうかとお思し召しになることもございましょう。そのようでは参り難く存じます。取り越し推参を申し上げることはお許しくださいませ。私の不調法は是非に及びませんが、御代々のためと存じ申すことですから、悪しきことはお捨てになってお許しください。恐惶謹言

同日、右の件について御老中稲葉美濃守正則殿へ左の通り御返書を遣わされた。

If you do not do so, it will not accord with Echizen-no-kami-dono's wishes, and moreover the domain will not be settled—I have understood this reasoning. I believe it is quite reasonable that you think it would be good for Senkiku-dono's sake. However, I believe it would be best if you absolutely come to the castle tomorrow or the day after and perform your New Year's duties. If you do not advance in court rank during your generation, there will be no opportunity for Senkiku-dono to receive court rank either. Moreover, this year there has been no discussion of court ranks for Hitachi-no-suke-dono, Matsudaira Daishichi-dono, or Senkiku-dono. Should you not come to the castle, there might be thoughts of appointing a proxy. In such a case, I believe it would be difficult to proceed. Please forgive me for this presumptuous advice. My inadequacy is beyond help, but since I believe this is for the sake of your generations, please discard any wrongdoing and forgive me. With fear and respect, humbly stated.
