【Right page, upper section】
○The deer is like a horse
but small.
Its head is long and its legs are thin
and high. Males have antlers that
fall off at the summer solstice. Females
have no antlers. They give birth
in the sixth month.
They prefer to eat turtles.
At the end of autumn,
they make their calls.
They cure consumptive diseases,
warm the loins, and are beneficial
for all kinds of illnesses.

deer's offspring.

○The roe deer lives in mountains during
autumn and winter, and in marshes during spring and summer.
It resembles a deer but is smaller
with no antlers. It is yellowish-black in color.
Males have fangs.
○The elk is a type of deer with
blue-black coloring. Its size is like
a calf. It has two holes
below its eyes, called
"night eyes."
○The chamois resembles a sheep,
is blue in color and large.
Its horns are thin with patterns,
like human fingers, with a length of
4-5 sun. Its hide is taken
to make bedding.
