大蛇が姫を呑もうと思い、あちらこちらを回ったけれども、四方の焚き火を恐れて、しばらくの間様子を窺っていたところ、盃の中に姫の姿が映っているのを見て、「稲田姫はここにいる」と思ったのだろうか。八つの頭を八つの盃に浸しながら、飽くまで酒を飲み続けた。これは最初からの謀略で、酒を飲み尽くしたら、こちらから流し入れようとして、盃に掛樋をかけて置いたので、そこから流し込んだところ、大蛇たちは待ちに待った酒に酔いしれて、ぼんやりとして眠ってしまった。

その時、尊（みこと）は剣を抜き、大蛇をずたずたに切り給う。ところが、尾に至った時、剣の刃が欠けて切れず、不思議に思われて、剣を取り直し、尾を縦に裂いて見られると、その中に一つの剣があった。この大蛇と申すのは、風水龍流の天降り給うたものなので、頭より雨を降らし、尾より風を起こす。この剣が尾にあった時、御手に黒雲が覆ったので、尊は剣の名を叢雲の剣と名付け給い、手名椎は
