安政元年十一月十日巳の刻過ぎより大地震が揺り出し、相模国小田原宿は大きく潰れ、それより伊豆下田では大津波で人死が多く出た。また東海道筋は三島宿が大きく潰れ宿場の半分が焼け、沼津宿は大きく潰れ、原宿は少々、吉原は大きく潰れ宿場は少々焼け、岩淵は大きく潰れ宿場の半分が焼け、由井宿・興津宿は少々、江尻宿は橋より東が焼け、府中宿は高札より東が焼けた。箱根山は少し崩れたが、箱根権現に別条がないのは神の威徳である。

From past the hour of the Snake (around 10 AM) on the 10th day of the 11th month of Ansei 1 (1854), a great earthquake began shaking. Odawara post station in Sagami Province was severely damaged, and from there, Shimoda in Izu suffered many deaths from a great tsunami. Along the Tōkaidō route: Mishima post station was severely damaged with half the lodgings burned, Numazu post station was severely damaged, Hara post station suffered some damage, Yoshiwara was severely damaged with some lodgings burned, Iwabuchi was severely damaged with half the lodgings burned, Yui and Okitsu post stations suffered some damage, Ejiri post station burned from the bridge eastward, and Fuchū post station burned from the notice board eastward. Mount Hakone suffered some landslides, but the fact that Hakone Gongen shrine remained unharmed demonstrates the divine power of the gods.
