小町（こまち）おもへば照（て）る日（ひ）もくもるしいの少将（しやう〳〵）がなみだ雨（あめ）とはいま
専（もつは）ら世（よ）の中（なか）に通客達（つうかくたち）のいきがりてうたふはうたの文句（もんく）ながら
末（すゑ）の一句（いつく）のばゞじやへは色気（いろけ）のない行（ゆき）どまり外（ほか）になにとか言（い）
ひやうも有（あ）るべきにばゞじやへとは何事（なにごと）ぞや。酒（さけ）は燗（かん）肴（さかな）は気（き）
どり酌（しやく）はたぼちん猫（ねこ）ばゞア子供（こども）いやなりとのおきてをもはゞか
らぬ悪洒落（あくじやれ）の一言（いちごん）。成（な）らば雅言（がげん）に取（と）りなして文句（もんく）をいさゝか

通い小町（こまち）
小町を思えば照る日も曇る、という少将のなみだ雨とは、今もっぱら世の中に通客達が粋がって歌う端唄の文句であるが、末の一句の「ばばじゃ」は色気のない行き詰まりで、他に何とか言いようもあるべきなのに「ばばじゃ」とは何事だろうか。酒は燗、肴は気取り、酌はたぼちん、猫・ばば・子供嫌なりとの掟をも憚らぬ悪洒落の一言である。それならば雅言に取りなして文句を少し

Following the rule that "sake should be warmed, side dishes should be refined, the sake pourer should be a young apprentice, and cats, old women, and children are disagreeable," this is but one word of crude jest that shows no regard for propriety.
