肌を突き刺すような寒さも厭わず、いつものように車の所まで行ったところ、この雪に遭って手足も冷え凍り、ついに車のもとで凍え死んでしまった。あと一日のことで本望を遂げられずに、無駄に男性器の御主人様になってしまったのは、見るに堪えない有様であった。このような盲目的な愛ゆえに、小町の身に報いが来て、ついにはその身も安穏ではなくなった。年老いて落ちぶれた後は、当てもなくあちこちとさまよい歩き、あるとき身も疲れ果てて道端の外輪の中に倒れていたところ、腰をかけて休んでいたのを、ある人がこれを見て、このような姿になり果てた身の末路を
