ということはなく、この後はどのようにでも指図次第で仕えるという旨を申し込んできた。二心のない者達については十分に吟味した
上で神文を受け取り、一味に次々と加えていった。
●一、最初に堀部安兵衛・奥田孫太夫が赤穂へ駆け参じ、籠城になれば必ず城を枕に
死ぬと申し、また上野介殿を討つ催しがあるならば同志になりたいと思っていたところ、御城引渡し
が済んだため、両人は内蔵助の許へ行き、敵討ちの事を強く勧めた。内蔵助が最初に申し合わせたのは

●First, Horibe Yasubei and Okuda Magodayū initially rushed to Akō, saying that if it came to a siege, they would certainly die
with the castle as their pillow, and if there was a plan to attack Kōzuke-no-suke-dono, they wanted to be comrades. However, since the castle surrender
was completed, both men went to Kuranosuke and strongly urged the matter of revenge. What Kuranosuke initially discussed was

- unless the prospects for these were determined, how could they proceed? His judgment remained undecided. The two men became indignant and consulted with Okuno Shōgen,
but he too shared the same opinion as Kuranosuke, so they decided to wait patiently for the petition process, saying "one way or another." The two men
felt frustrated, saying that if Kōzuke-no-suke-dono, who was already nearly seventy, should die of illness first, even a thousand regrets would not bring back the opportunity.
