一切腹今日に究候時主税申けるは苦しかる間敷候はゝ父内蔵助方へ
最期之一通遣し度と申候苦しかる間敷との儀に而相互に死を今日
に贈（本ノ侭）ふ本懐不過之候於泉下奉期拝顔候はんと申贈る内蔵助
致披見我子之手跡なつかしく（本書に懐敷とあり）数日面話せさるに文体の健かなる
彼是思ひ合せたるや暫し落涙のよし為継亡主之報執達
本望今日□露命喜悦之至也潔く可被致自害候此表之事
聊被案思間敷との返翰也主税も此文を三度拝し候由也
【此書中往来偽なるへし】
▢一越中守殿御家老拾七人に向て永く下し可預候様に上下共に待居申候処
現代語訳
○一 切腹を今日と決めた時、主税が申したのは「差し支えなければ、父内蔵助の方へ最期の一通を送りたい」ということであった。差し支えないということで、互いに死を今日に迎えることは本懐に過ぎない、泉下においてお顔を拝することを期待していると申し送った。内蔵助がこれを披見すると、我が子の手跡が懐かしく、数日面談していないのに文体が健やかであることなど、あれこれ思い合わせて、しばらく落涙したとのことである。亡主への報いを達成し、本望である。今日、露のような命を喜悦の至りとして、潔く自害を遂げるべきである。この表のことは少しも案ずることはないとの返翰であった。主税もこの文を三度拝したということである。

○一 越中守殿の御家老十七人に向かって、永く預かり置くようにと、上下共に待っていたところ

○One: When seppuku was determined for that day, Chikara said, "If there is no impediment, I would like to send a final letter to my father Kuranosuke." As there was no impediment, he sent word saying that for both of them to meet death on this day was beyond their fondest wish, and that he looked forward to seeing his father's face in the underworld. When Kuranosuke read this, he found his child's handwriting dear, and thinking of various things—how though they had not spoken face to face for several days, the writing style was vigorous—he shed tears for a while. To fulfill the duty to their deceased lord was their deepest desire. Today, to regard this fleeting life as the height of joy and to commit seppuku with purity was proper. There should be no concern whatsoever about worldly matters, was his reply. Chikara also read this letter three times, it is said.
