主の仇を眼前に置て宥々たる評定扨も口惜き心底と大に
怒てかけ出する足を源五大に感心仕けるとかや
一矢頭右衛門七は父長助連判の人数たりしか病死せし後衆儀区々
にして不同心の方数多なれは其分に成しか後に義たるを聞改て
死を決し未若輩に而誰教候者もなきに先非を改て義に進む

見て何の猶予があろうか、我等は急いで下ろうと言って走り出る源五の袖を引き止め、「それには理由がある。心を静めて詳しい事情を聞いてくれ」と言って縁側に立って引き止めたのを振り払い、縁の柱に頭を打ち付け打ち付け声を立てて涙を流し、「主君の仇を眼前に置いて悠々とした評定とは、まことに口惜しい心底だ」と大いに怒ってかけ出そうとする足を、源五は大いに感心したということである。
一、矢頭右衛門七は、父長助が連判の人数であったが病死した後、衆議がまちまちになって同心しない者が数多くいたので、その一派になっていたが、後に義のためと聞いて改心し、死を決意した。まだ若輩でありながら誰に教えられることもなく、先の非を改めて義に進んだ勇士である。

"What hesitation could there be? We must go down immediately!" When he ran out saying this, someone grabbed Gengo's sleeve and stopped him, saying "There is a reason for this. Calm your heart and listen to the detailed circumstances," standing on the veranda to restrain him. But he shook off the restraint, struck his head against the pillar of the veranda repeatedly, cried out and shed tears, saying "To hold such leisurely deliberations with our lord's enemy right before our eyes - what a regrettable state of mind!" and angrily tried to rush out. Gengo was greatly impressed by this, it is said.
1. Yatō Uemon-shichi's father Chōsuke had been among those who signed the pledge, but after he died of illness, the group's opinions became divided and many did not agree, so he had joined that faction. However, later hearing that it was for righteousness, he had a change of heart and resolved to die. Though still young and with no one to teach him, he corrected his previous errors and advanced toward righteousness - truly a brave warrior.
