様子相知不申候内匠頭家来父方之大伯父先岡村
杢之助方江養子に遣右之留守上野介討候事
残念に存致自害候哉と被達候由夫故乱心之沙汰に

〇一小山田一閑と云者八十歳有余成しか息庄左衛門連判を仕なから
一同に不打入事口惜思ひ夜中に自殺仕候
一豊田九八郎と云者四十六士切腹已後必御寺江参自害可仕と
申候而其後欠落仕候由
現代語訳
様子が分からないと申している。内匠頭の家来で、父方の大伯父である先の岡村杢之助の方へ養子に遣わした。その留守中に上野介を討ったことを残念に思い自害したのであろうかと達せられたということである。そのため乱心の沙汰ということになり事が済んだ。
○一つ、小山田一閑という者は八十歳余りであったが、息子の庄左衛門が連判をしながら一同に討ち入りしなかったことを口惜しく思い、夜中に自殺した。
一つ、豊田九八郎という者は、四十六士が切腹した後、必ず御寺へ参り自害するつもりだと申していたが、その後行方をくらました。

The circumstances are not known, he said. He was a retainer of Takumi-no-kami, and had been sent as an adopted son to his paternal great-uncle, the former Okamura Mokunosuke. During his absence, the attack on Kōzuke-no-suke took place, and it was reported that he probably committed suicide out of regret [for missing it]. Therefore, it was treated as a case of mental derangement and the matter was concluded.
○ One case: A man named Oyamada Ikkan, who was over eighty years old, felt bitter regret that his son Shōzaemon, despite having signed the pledge, did not participate in the attack with the others, and committed suicide in the middle of the night.
One case: A man named Toyoda Kyūhachirō said that after the forty-six samurai committed seppuku, he would certainly visit the temple and commit suicide, but thereafter he disappeared.
