はしかよみ込
ほれなさは同しはしかも路の下
世はなさけ旅ではしかのつれが出来
腹違ひお はしかで後が
ふところにはしかをのてこぎをおし
夕立ちにうまるゝはしかふびんなり
古河梨とよんで我か子ははしかこと
はしかうちしやかと達磨■
はしかやみよし原町に■なしり
露の鳥はしかあらねは目も出せず

謹て申ス予が友
真山子 主（ヌシ）父君におくれ孤（ミナシコ）と成母公に仕へ天
道にそむかず花車風流は自（オノツラ）志深ク
友に交ツテ礼儀厚く其記爰云尽し
得べからず今歳麻疹を病マせられ
しかして後脚気に関られしばらく病
床に座せられたりしがよりより柳風の狂句
を読せられて其員凡百四十余吟に及べり
そを又えらみて書付てよとせちにせめさせ
玉へとも件より好道ながらどれを華とも紅
葉とも愚昧の庸服になさめともいなむに
御免し無からせは思ふまにまに書奉て
御笑をかふむるになん
于時文久二戌年閏八月

謹んで申し上げます、私の友人
真山子主は父君に遅れて孤児となり、母公に仕えて天道に背かず、花車風流は自らの志深く、友に交わって礼儀厚く、その記すこと、ここに言い尽くし得ません。今年麻疹を患われ、しかしてその後脚気にかかられ、しばらく病床に臥せられましたが、おりおり柳風の狂句を読まれて、その員数おおよそ百四十余吟に及びました。それをまた選んで書き付けてよと切にせめられましたが、件より好道ながら、どれを華とも紅葉とも、愚昧の庸人には判断できません。しかし断るにお許しなくば、思うままに書き奉って御笑いを被るのです。

The coldness is the same, even measles under the eaves
The world shows compassion; when traveling, measles creates companions
For those distant from marriage, measles completes the role
Putting measles in one's pocket and bringing out the oar
Measles caught in the evening shower - how pitiful
Calling it an old pear, my child has measles matters
From measles came Shakyamuni and Daruma ■
Measles sufferers, Yoshiwara district becomes [unclear]
A caged bird, without measles cannot even show its eyes

I respectfully state: My friend
Master Mayamako lost his father and became an orphan, serving his mother with devotion to heaven's way. His aesthetic sensibilities in elegant pursuits run deep, and his courtesy in friendship is profound - these qualities cannot be fully described here. This year he suffered from measles, and afterward was afflicted with beriberi, confined to his sickbed for some time. During this period, he occasionally composed kyōku verses in the yanagikaze style, totaling approximately one hundred and forty poems. He earnestly pressed me to select and transcribe these, but though I am fond of this art, my foolish and common mind cannot distinguish which are flowers or autumn leaves. However, since refusal would not be permitted, I write as I see fit and humbly accept your laughter.
