現代語訳
漉き返しの半切紙が言うには：
「さて私はとてつもなく大変に疲れまして、何か一日中ぞんざいになぐり書きにされます。なんぼ私でもほかへ参ったならこうぞんざいにも使われますまい。あげくの果てに何を書くかと存じましたところが、一つ何々として品を書きつけ、最後に『見切りの品、月極め申し候間、ご事情なく荷合い流し申し候、誰様』と認め、名前も書かず質屋」

「とばかり書いて先へやりました。先で読んでみて苦々しい顔をして『困ったものだ、利上げはならず、商売事がない。勝手にさっしゃれ』と言いながら、私を引き裂き、噛んで捨てられました」

英語訳
The recycled hansetsu paper says:
"Well, I have become tremendously exhausted, being roughly scribbled on carelessly all day long. No matter how much I am just paper, if I had gone elsewhere, I wouldn't have been used so roughly. At the end of it all, when I wondered what would be written on me, someone wrote down various items, and concluded with: 'Clearance items, monthly contract expired, therefore we are flowing goods without regard to circumstances, [signed] Someone' - and sent it off to a pawn shop without even writing a proper name."

"That's all they wrote before sending me off. When they read it at the destination, they made a bitter face and said 'This is troublesome - no profit increase possible, no business to be had. Do as you please!' While saying this, they tore me up, chewed me, and threw me away."
