等ノ身ニ在ル名譽ヲ失ハズ去ル一千八百
六十六年ニ吾レ汝等ヲ率ヒテ顕ハシタル
汝等ノ勲功ニ又新タナル「ローレス」ヲ増
添セン且ツ國中舉テ我子弟汝等ノ捷チ矜
テ勇壮ナランヿヲ望メリ〇且ツ汝等是マ
デ國人或ハ歒人ナリトモ未ダ曽テ他人ノ

この獅子のように奮い立ち、虎のように激しい老将軍が、その軍兵に示した言葉は以下の通りである。
曰く：
「兵士たちよ、汝らはすでに敵と相まみえる機会を得ることになるのは必定である。今、天の神の加護を得て、元来汝らの身に宿る名誉を失わず、かの一千八百六十六年に我が汝らを率いて示した、汝らの功績に、さらに新たな栄誉を加え増そうではないか。また、国中こぞって、我が子弟である汝らが勝利を誇り、勇壮であらんことを望んでいる。〇そして汝らは、これまで自国の者であれ、敵の者であれ、いまだかつて他人の――」

The old general, fierce as a lion and ferocious as a tiger, addressed his troops as follows:
He declared:
"Soldiers! It is certain that you will soon have the opportunity to face the enemy. Now, with the divine assistance of Heaven, without losing the honor that has always resided within you, let us add new laurels to the distinguished achievements you displayed when I led you in the year 1866. Furthermore, the entire nation hopes that you, our beloved sons, will triumph gloriously and show yourselves to be brave and valiant. ○ And you, whether compatriots or enemies, have never yet allowed others to—"
