Although the editors greatly wish to withhold the proclamation above, as the state of the war remains unclear, they could not refrain from publishing the letters sent from the battlefield by the Emperor and [Marshal] Lebœuf. Furthermore, since the editors harbor a great sense of alarm and consternation, they have here appended a proclamation written by the authorities presently in Paris, which reads as follows:
The number of our troops killed and wounded is not yet known; our army has suffered defeat throughout——
