文政十三庚寅年七月二日申の時はかりに大に地 震（ふる）ひ出
ておびたゝしくゆり動（うごか）しけれは洛中の土-蔵築-地など
大にいたみ潰（つぶ）れし家居もあり土蔵の潰れしは数多
ありて築地高塀などは大かた倒（たふ）れ怪我（けが）せし人も数
多なり昔はありと聞けと近く都の土地にかくはげ
しきはなかりければ人々驚きおそれてみな〳〵家
を走り出て大路に敷ものしき仮（かり）の宿りをつくれと

現代語訳
最近京都で大地震があり、数日間止まなかった。東隴庵の主人が小さな記録を袖に入れて持参し、私に題言を書くよう依頼した。その記録を見ると、今右評説画でこのことを取り上げている。そこで仁和年間の前兆を書き記して題言に代え、ささやかながらその責任を果たすものである。

文政十三庚寅年七月二日申の時頃に大きく地震が起こり始め、激しく揺れ動いたので、洛中の土蔵や築地などが大いに損傷し、潰れた家もあった。土蔵の潰れたものは数多くあり、築地や高い塀などは大部分が倒れ、怪我をした人も多数いた。昔はあったと聞くが、近年都の土地でこれほど激しいものはなかったので、人々は驚き恐れて皆家から走り出て、大通りに敷物を敷いて仮の宿りを作ったが

Recently there was a great earthquake in the capital (Kyoto) that continued for several days without stopping. The master of Tōryō-an brought a small record in his sleeve and requested that I write an inscription. Looking at his record, it now takes up this matter in the right commentary painting. Therefore, I write down the omens from the Nin'na era to serve as the inscription, thus modestly fulfilling that responsibility.

On the 2nd day of the 7th month of Bunsei 13, year of the Metal Tiger, around the hour of the Monkey, a great earthquake began and shook violently, so that the storehouses and earthen walls in Rakuchū were greatly damaged, and some houses collapsed. Many storehouses were destroyed, most of the earthen walls and high fences fell down, and many people were injured.
