田畑を損ふ事前代未聞の大変ありそも〳〵
犀川のあら浪をは一心称名を嘯へて渡船する事
遠国を備る人といへとも誰か此大河を知さるもの
あらんや然るに上流にて水湛て渡船の場所一滴の
水なし若上流の此水息【？】を一時に破りて押出し
なはいかなる災害の発すへきや人心ひとつとして
穏かならす闇夜に路頭を踏迷ひ大海の浪に
漂よふか如し掛る壇場【陰陽？】の変化なれは不時に大

頭を並て伏しまつひ乳より上へを
焼失ひ足腰を焼損ひ死人山をなすと
いへとも是を取かたつくる人力もなく見渡
せは茫々たる焼け跡に燃残りたる死骸

田畑を損なうこと前代未聞の大変事があった。そもそも犀川の荒波を一心に念仏を唱えて渡船することは、遠国を旅する人といえども、誰がこの大河を知らない者があろうか。しかるに上流にて水が溜まって、渡船の場所には一滴の水もない。もし上流のこの水堰を一時に破って押し出したなら、いかなる災害が発するであろうか。人心はひとつとして穏やかでなく、闇夜に路頭を踏み迷い、大海の波に漂うかのようである。かかる異変の変化であれば、不意に大風を起こし、また雲雨を発する。地は一刻に六七度震い、焼亡・水災を莫大にする。地水火風空をもって五体を保ち、地水火風空をもって五体を悩ませる。臥しては五尺の身を置くといえども、立つ時はわずかに一尺の地を踏むことが難しい。一身の置き場もなく、二十七八日に及んでも幾千万の死体があちこちに倒れ、あるいは三尺、または五七人が頭を並べて伏し、乳より上を焼失し、足腰を焼き損ない、死人が山をなすといえども、これを取り片付ける人力もなく、見渡せば茫々たる焼け跡に燃え残った死骸が

There was an unprecedented disaster that damaged fields and farmland. Originally, crossing the turbulent waves of the Sai River while chanting the nembutsu with single-minded devotion - even travelers from distant provinces would know of this great river. However, water had accumulated upstream, leaving not a single drop of water at the ferry crossing. If this upstream water dam were to break all at once and surge forth, what kind of disaster would occur? Not a single human heart remained calm, wandering lost on the roads in the dark night, like drifting on the waves of the great ocean. With such extraordinary changes occurring, great winds arose unexpectedly and clouds and rain were unleashed. The earth shook six or seven times in a single moment, making the fire damage and flood disasters enormous. The five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and void both sustained the five parts of the body and tormented them. When lying down, one could place a five-foot body, but when standing, it was difficult to step on even one foot of ground. With no place for one's body, even after twenty-seven or twenty-eight days, hundreds of thousands of corpses lay fallen here and there - some three feet apart, others with five or seven people lying with heads side by side, burned from the chest up, with legs and hips burned and damaged.
