彼の圧死したる親族種々さま〳〵の品を
携ひ来りて回向を頼むにまた広田屋
仁兵衛といふ人来りて手伝し戒名俗名を
書留めて仏前に差出し回向をそ乞ける
是等の事共後に見聞する時は他の誹謗も
尤多かるへし乍去幾千萬の諸人横死
苦痛の難堪事魂は此土を去りぬといへとも
死骸はいまた街にさらして満々たれはおの
れか心にて己か心を惑はすなるか施餓鬼
中はに至る頃まて晴渡りて向暑なりしを戌

亥の方より黒雲大風暫時に起りさつと下時匂
大風と共に吹まくり仏前に飾り有處の香花
其余のしな〳〵【品々】壇上より吹落しけれは取て
揚くれは又吹落すそれを揚ふれは
吹落し〳〵つかみさらはんありさま
にて諸人の親族は尚更に有合ふ人々
地に座して感涙に袖を絞りつゝ愁歎を
してそ拝しける程なく勤行済けれは実に
誠とかきけす如くに晴渡りぬ時にして
小時雨土風雲を起し時至りて雲散し

現代語訳

圧死した親族たちが、様々な品物を持参して回向を頼みに来た。また広田屋仁兵衛という人も来て手伝い、戒名や俗名を書き留めて仏前に差し出し、回向を請うた。これらの事柄は、後に見聞きする際には他人からの誹謗も多くあるだろう。しかしながら、数千万の人々が横死し、耐え難い苦痛を受け、魂はこの世を去ったとはいえ、死骸はまだ街にさらされて満ち溢れているので、自分の心で自分の心を惑わせているのだろうか。施餓鬼法要が最中に至る頃まで晴れ渡って暑い日であったが、戌亥の方角（北西）から黒雲と大風が突然起こり、激しく雨が降り始めた。

大風と共に雨が吹き荒れ、仏前に飾ってあった香花やその他の様々な品物が壇上から吹き落とされた。それを拾い上げてもまた吹き落とされ、それを上げればまた吹き落とされ、まるでつかみ去ろうとするような有様であった。諸人の親族はなおさらのこと、居合わせた人々も地に座して感涙に袖を絞りながら、嘆き悲しんで拝んでいた。程なく勤行が済むと、まことに不思議なことに晴れ渡った。時として小雨が降り、土埃と風雲を起こし、時が至ると雲が散った。

The family members of those who had died from being crushed brought various items and came to request memorial services. A man named Hirata-ya Jinbei also came to help, recording the Buddhist posthumous names and secular names, presenting them before the Buddha, and requesting memorial services. When these matters are observed later, there will likely be much criticism from others. However, although thousands and tens of thousands of people died unnatural deaths and suffered unbearable pain, and their souls have departed this world, their corpses still lie exposed throughout the streets in great numbers. Perhaps one's own mind is confusing itself.

Until the middle of the segaki (hungry ghost festival) ceremony, the weather had been clear and hot, but from the northwest direction, black clouds and strong winds suddenly arose, and rain began to fall heavily.

The rain swept along with the strong wind, blowing down the incense flowers and various other items that had been decorated in front of the Buddha from the altar. When people picked them up, they were blown down again; when they put them back up, they were blown down again, as if something were trying to snatch them away. The families of the deceased, and all the more so the people who happened to be present, sat on the ground, wringing their sleeves with tears of emotion, lamenting and praying. Soon after the religious service was completed, the weather cleared up in a truly miraculous manner. At times light rain fell, stirring up dust, wind, and clouds, and when the time came, the clouds dispersed.
