快晴になったことを得意げに、ここに記したなどと見る人の心によっては笑うこともあるだろうが、その時に臨んで心気に通じるところの感涙は、実に数千万の人々が圧死した屍をここに留めることは恐ろしいことであり、哀れむべきことである。

英語訳

Some readers might laugh at my writing proudly about how the weather cleared up, depending on their state of mind. However, the tears of emotion that connected with the spirit of that moment—truly, the fact that the corpses of thousands and tens of thousands of people who died from being crushed are kept here is both terrifying and pitiable.
