本綱の寒號蟲の説なとはいにしへの人もい
またしかりをはしめてかくつまひらかにとき
あかされしをことこのむあたりにはめてくつかへ
らぬはなしさて弘賢に一ことをくはへよとこは
せ給ふにそ我古今《見せ消ち：一安｜#3》覧をあつめ侍るにつき
てそのをしへをうくること浅からさればとし
比のめくみにむくひ侍へらんとてさきにまつむし
すゝむしの考をかきてまいらせことし又か
くさつたなきことはを巻のはしにくはへはへ
るなり文政ふたとせのちの卯月はしめの
五日六十あまり二のをきな源弘賢書

【右丁】
本草綱目の寒号虫の説明などは、古の人もまだ
正しく理解しておらず、初めてこのように詳しく解き
明かされたことを、このような好事家の間では珍しく
聞かれない話である。さて弘賢に一言を加えよと
仰せ給うので、我が古今の資料を集めて侍るにつき、
その教えを受けることが浅からざれば、年来の
恵みに報いて侍ろうと思い、先に松虫
鈴虫の考証を書いて差し上げ、今年また
このような拙いながらも文章を巻の端に加え
るのである。文政二年の夏四月初めの
五日、六十二歳の翁、源弘賢書す

The explanations of the winter-calling insect (kangochu) in the Compendium of Materia Medica and such, even the ancients did not yet
understand correctly, and this is the first time it has been elucidated in such detail -
such discourse is not uncommonly heard among enthusiasts of this sort. Now, as you command me, Hiroken, to add a word,
since I have been collecting materials both ancient and modern,
and my reception of those teachings is not shallow, I wish to repay the
kindness of many years, so previously I wrote examinations of pine crickets
and bell crickets and presented them, and this year again I add
such poor writing as this to the margin of the volume.
