左の歌の心は君をおもひそめ
てよりたゞひとすぢにあひ見まく
ほしとのみなげきつるに一夜あひ
てはわかれのあしたよりはあるひ
はおもふがまゝにあひがたくあるひは
その人の心かはりやせんなどゝもの
思ひの数ましてあはぬまへうた乃
くろうはものかずならぬやうにおも
はれあふてのちふかくなればなる
ほどものおもひのますていなり

現代語訳
左の歌の心は、君を思い始めてからただ一筋に会いたいとばかり嘆いていたのに、一夜会ってから別れの朝からは、あるいは思うままに会い難く、あるいはその人の心変わりをするのではないかなどと、物思いの種類が増して、会わない前の歌の苦労は物の数ではないように思われる。会ってから後、深くなればなるほど物思いが増すということなのです。

会い見てのちの心に比ぶれば昔は物を思はざりけり
現代語訳：
あなたと会った後の心の状態と比べてみると、昔は何も思い悩んでいなかったのだなあ
英語訳
The meaning of the poem on the left is: Ever since I began to think of you, I had been lamenting with a single-minded desire just to meet you. However, after we spent one night together, from the morning of our parting, sometimes it became difficult to meet as I wished, and sometimes I worried whether that person's heart might change - the varieties of anxious thoughts multiplied, making the suffering in the poem before we met seem like nothing at all. The deeper the feelings become after meeting, the more the anxious thoughts increase.

"Compared to my heart after we met and saw each other, in the past I had no worries at all"
Translation: When I compare my current state of mind to how it was after we met, I realize that in the past I had no troubles or anxious thoughts whatsoever.
