親をさま〴〵にすかして遊女に売らせあるとある悪事を
のみなす者あり女子ひとり持り名をさくと呼（よび）けり此
娘は父に少も似ず万やさしく貌形（かほかたち）も人にすくれ愛嬌（あいけう）
ありて見る人ごとにいつくしみけりしかるに此さく父母に
孝（かう）深（ふか）き事又 類（たぐひ）なし父が人に異（こと）なる業（わざ）をなすをふかく
歎（なげ）き此村に八千代 稲荷（いなり）とていとあらたなる小社（ほこら）あるに
日毎に歩みをはこび父が悪心を改て本心になさしめ
たひ給へと丹誠（たんせい）無二に祈（いの）りける志の程こそあはれに
神も納受ありぬべし元来 強欲（がうよく）不動の鷲（わし）蔵殊に
貧賎（ひんせん）にせまり此さくを在の遊女屋へ七年の内勤る

約束（やくそく）に定め金子十両に売らんといひ約し近日金持参し
さくと引かへに来（く）るはづなりかくともしらでさくは
野山をいとはず走（はし）りあるきて菜（な）つみ水くみ薪（たきゞ）こり
身を忘（わすれ）て朝夕のたつぎを母もろ共にいとなみぬ時しも
秋の半にて山に菌（きのこ）の盛（さかり）なればそれを取らんとて出たり
折ふし隣（となり）の惣右衛門は久しう止たりし山狩ふと思ひ
付て出たりしかるに大なる狐（きつね）を見つけ打取んと悦ひ
思て玉薬仕かけし鉄砲（てつほう）に火縄付つけ火ぶた切て
はなしければあやまたず手ごたへしたり得たりとうれ
しく走寄（はせより）見れは狐にはあらでかなしや鷲蔵（わしざう）が娘の

現代語訳

親をさまざまに騙して遊女として売らせる、あらゆる悪事を専らとする者であった。一人娘を持っており、名をさくと呼んだ。この娘は父に少しも似ず、とても優しく、顔立ちも人に優れて愛嬌があり、見る人ごとに慈しんだ。しかもこのさくは、父母への孝行が深いこと、また類がなかった。父が人と違う悪業をなすのを深く嘆き、この村にある八千代稲荷という大変霊験あらたかな小さな社に毎日歩いて参り、「父の悪心を改めて本心に立ち返らせてください」と、真心込めて一心に祈っていた。その志の程は哀れ深く、神も受け入れてくださることであろう。

もともと強欲で頑固な鷲蔵は、特に貧乏に迫られて、このさくを在郷の遊女屋へ七年間奉公する約束で決め、金子十両で売ろうと約束し、近日中に金を持参してさくと引き換えに来る予定であった。

そうとも知らずに、さくは野山を厭わず走り回って菜摘み、水汲み、薪拾いをし、我が身を忘れて朝夕の生活の糧を母と共に営んでいた。時はちょうど秋の半ばで、山にきのこが盛りの季節だったので、それを取ろうと出かけた。

折しも隣の惣右衛門は、久しく止めていた山狩りをふと思い立って出かけた。そして大きな狐を見つけ、撃ち取ろうと喜び、玉薬を仕掛けた鉄砲に火縄を付けて火蓋を切って放ったところ、間違いなく手応えがあった。「やったぞ」と嬉しく駆け寄って見ると、狐ではなく、悲しいことに鷲蔵の娘の...

He would deceive parents in various ways to sell their daughters as prostitutes, engaging in all manner of evil deeds as his specialty. He had one daughter whom he called Saku. This daughter bore no resemblance to her father - she was extremely gentle, with facial features superior to others and full of charm, beloved by all who saw her. Moreover, this Saku's filial devotion to her parents was unparalleled. She deeply grieved over her father's wicked deeds that set him apart from other people, and every day she would walk to a small shrine in the village called Yachiyo Inari, which was very spiritually efficacious, praying with single-minded devotion: "Please reform my father's evil heart and restore him to his true nature." Her sincere devotion was so touching that surely the gods would accept her prayers.

Originally greedy and stubborn, Washizo was particularly pressed by poverty, so he arranged to sell this Saku to a rural brothel for seven years of service, promising to sell her for ten ryo of gold, with plans to bring the money in the near future and exchange it for Saku.
