郭中（くはくちう）に物（もの）あり首（かしら）は茶番（ちやばん）尾（を）は祭礼（さいれい）足手（てあし）は
躍（おどり）の如（おと）くにて啼（なく）声（こゑ）芝居（しばゐ）に似（に）たるものは何也々々（なんざ〳〵）
是則（これすなはち）俄（にわか）てふ物（もの）にして日々（にち〳〵）夜々（や〳〵）趣向（しゆこう）同（おな）じからず
きのふの興（けふ）は飛鳥川（あすかがは）替（かはり）り安（やす）きを花（はな）にして

跋
郭中（廓中）に物があり、頭は茶番、尾は祭礼、手足は踊りのようで、鳴き声は芝居に似たものは何だろうか。
これすなわち「俄」というもので、日々夜々趣向が同じではない。
昨日の興も今日は飛鳥川のように変わりやすいのを花にして、
余すことなく漏らすことなく図画にし、『明月余情』と題し、
初編より第二編、第三編及び追々に数編を継いで
遊客の閲覧に備えるということである。

Postface
In the pleasure quarters there is a creature whose head is like a comic skit, whose tail is like a festival, whose limbs are like dancing, and whose voice resembles theater - what might this be?
This is indeed what is called "niwaka" (impromptu entertainment), and its themes differ day by day, night by night.
Yesterday's excitement changes as easily as the Asuka River, and taking this as a flower,
I have illustrated it completely without omission or oversight, titled it "Meigetsu Yojō" (Moonlight Lingering Emotions),
and plan to continue from the first volume through the second and third volumes and progressively with several more volumes
to provide for the perusal of pleasure-seeking visitors.
