一 私共村々之儀信州上州堺浅間山拾四里道法御座候処

御座候得共動夥敷大山も崩候程之闇虚空鳴渡り

一、私共の村々は信州上州の境にある浅間山から十四里の距離にございます。今年の春頃から度々噴火し、これまでも灰砂が降りましたが、特に差し支えはございませんでした。ところが、当七月五日の夜から噴火の音が激しくなり、風雨は全くございませんでしたが、地震が激しく、大山も崩れるほどの暗闇で空が鳴り響き、八日の夜明けまで昼夜の区別もなく、八日の朝まで灰砂が降り続きました。四つ時頃でしょうか、焼けた石が雨のように降ってきて、地震も止みません。八つ時過ぎになると泥雨となり、非常に臭いがひどく、食事もできないほどでございます。泥砂利はおよそ一尺ほど

One: Our villages are located fourteen ri from Mount Asama, which sits on the border between Shinano and Kozuke provinces. Since this spring, the mountain has erupted repeatedly, and although ash and sand have fallen until now, there was no particular hindrance.
